Heart of Humble Heroes Hundred Day Challenge

The Humble Heroes of FDNY and I.S.72 would like to show appreciation for students who volunteer and make an impact in their community. Heart of Humble Heroes was created to celebrate young volunteers.

Bulldogs! You have 100 days to make a difference! After the 100 days, you will submit a final reflection of your experience which will be reviewed by members of the Board of Humble Heroes. The Committee will choose one winner from each grade who made the greatest impact in his/her community. Each winner will win a scholarship prize. All participants will receive service credits for Arista and Laurie’s Leadership Society.

Show your heart, Bulldogs!

Requirements: (This section lists the criteria that must be met for your work to be considered for the challenge.)
● Minimum of 15 hours of community service volunteer work within the 100 days of December 12th- March 13th
● Volunteer Log hand signed by a supervisor where you volunteered and given to Ms.Iburg by March 13, 2026. See attached form. Extras are on the wall outside Ms.Iburg’s room (161).

Suggestions: (This section is optional but would be appreciated. This might also encourage others to join the challenge!)
● Share photos of your volunteer experience on social media! On Instagram, tag @humbleheroes_ny and use hashtags #heartofhumbleheroes and #BulldogSTRONG

Final Submission: March 13, 2026

● Students have the choice of submitting a written response or uploading a recording through flipgrid.
● To submit a written (typed) response, please print your essay and bring it to Ms.Iburg Iburg in room 161.
● For your final submission, you must answer the following questions:
○ Where did you volunteer and what was your role? (It is ok to have volunteered at various organizations or only one throughout the 100 days.)
○ How did your volunteerism impact your community? (Remember, your impact could be that you made a difference in someone’s life, recruited more volunteers, improved a practice that was already existing, etc. The ways to have an impact are endless!)
○ What feelings did you have throughout your volunteer experience and what did you learn?
○ Would you encourage others to try this challenge next year? If so, why would you want others to try and what tips would you give them?

*Please remember that volunteering is work you do not get paid for.
