Incoming 6th grade

Letter From Principal Jackson

Dear Families,

I hope you have been enjoying your summer and taking advantage of this time to slow down and recharge.  We still have several weeks before returning, but I wanted to announce an important change in our administrative cabinet.

As a result of Mrs. Curran's retirement, I have appointed Ms. Lissa Ambrosino as the new Interim Acting AP of 6th Grade.

Ms. Ambrosino has been a valued member of our Rocco Laurie community for many years. Although she most recently has been in the role of Lunchroom Coordinator, she has been in the field of education for over twenty years, six at the Michael J. Petrides School, and the last fifteen here at Rocco Laurie. She began her career as a Social Studies teacher at the Petrides School, where she learned a great deal about creating conditions for student success through several innovative programs initiated there. At I.S. 72, she took on roles of team leader, department leader and she began mentoring new teachers and teachers that needed support as well. Her experience has been in project based, student centered learning as well as teaching and collaborating in an accelerated Regents curriculum. She has also been in the roles of 7th grade Dean and Crisis Intervention Teacher here at 72.  In each of these positions, she worked closely with Administration, gaining experience in day-to-day operations of the building. As Dean and CIT, she was trained in Restorative Practices and Justice and collaborated to create our SEL curriculum for Advisory classes. She further utilized these skills conducting Restorative Circles and re-entry for students in crisis and suspension. She also presently coordinates our Bulldog Buck Rewards program and assemblies, which includes collaborating to develop our #BulldogStrong Community Commitments. While her roles have shifted out of the classroom to ones that focus on SEL, Restorative Practices, Culture & Climate, Disciplinary Action and OORS data, she has kept up with current DOE initiatives including being a member of the Instructional Leadership Team and participating in CRSE workshops. Ms. Ambrosino understands the importance of creating opportunities for students and teachers to be successful using data, collaborative planning and rigorous instructional practices.  During her tenure at IS 72, she has been able to provide support for students, parents and teachers that result in positive outcomes for all.

I am thrilled to collaborate with Ms. Ambrosino in this new leadership capacity.  Please join me in welcoming Ms. Lissa Ambrosino to our administrative leadership team.

Please refer to the email I sent in June and our school website for all September updates.

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Jessica Jackson
Principal
